Real-World Applications

Short wave (HF) long-distance radio communications and amateur radio (HAM) widely use SSB. In transoceanic maritime and aviation communications, SSB concentrates all transmitter power on effective sideband information, plus the narrow bandwidth (only about 3kHz), the transmission distance far exceeds ordinary AM.

* Principle: Both I and Q paths are DSB signals, but 90° out of phase. When added/subtracted, one sideband undergoes destructive interference (cancellation), leaving only the other sideband.
