Transmit only one sideband, doubling bandwidth efficiency

Real-World Applications

Short wave (HF) long-distance radio communications and amateur radio (HAM) widely use SSB. In transoceanic maritime and aviation communications, SSB concentrates all transmitter power on effective sideband information, plus the narrow bandwidth (only about 3kHz), the transmission distance far exceeds ordinary AM.
